FIRST Tech Challenge 14133 Cyber Crusaders

Starting in 2018, FRC Team 272 partnered with 3 local grade schools, Mary Mother of the Redeemer (MMR), St. Jude and Mater Dei to offer FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) programs to students in 7th and 8th grade. FTC teams (10+ members, grades 7-12) are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format. Guided by adult Coaches and Mentors, students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles (like keeping an engineering notebook), while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and sharing ideas.

Starting in 2017, FRC Team 272 partnered with 3 local grade schools, Mary Mother of the Redeemer (MMR), St. Jude and Mater Dei to offer FIRST Lego  (FLL) programs to students in 4th to 8th grade.FLL students are guided by two or more adult Coaches, as well as an LC student mentor to research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution. They also must design, build, program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS®, then compete on a table-top playing field. Along their journey, they develop critical thinking and team-building skills, basic STEM applications, and even presentation skills, as they must present their solutions with a dash of creativity to judges. They also practice the Program’s Core Values, which emphasize discovery, teamwork and good sportsmanship.
